This page is for the client: the person a builder is doing the work for. If your builder runs your job in BuildersAI, they can send you extra work and its price to sign before it starts (a change order), and they can choose to show you the money on your job. You do not need to pay for anything or set anything up. If you are the builder, the “cost_tracker” topic is yours.
A change order: extra work, and its price, for you to agree before it starts
When you ask for something that was not in the original price (“move that door”, “two more sockets”), your builder can price it and send it to you as a change order, numbered CO-001, CO-002 and so on. It says what the change is, the price, the VAT and the total.
Signing from the email (no account needed):
- Open the email from your builder and click the link in it
- Read the change and the total
- Type your name, draw your signature in the box with your finger, mouse or pen, and tick “I agree to this change and its price”
- Press Sign. Or, if you do not agree, type your name and press Decline
Opening the link records nothing: only pressing Sign or Decline does. Your builder can see your answer straight away. If the page says the change order was changed while you had it open, read it again before you sign: your builder has altered it, and you are only ever asked to agree to what is in front of you.
Signing in the BuildersAI app: if you follow the job in the app or on the web (your builder will have invited you), open the job and choose Money. Change orders waiting for you are at the top: sign or decline them there in the same way. In the phone app, Money is in the menu, and it needs a connection.
Once signed, a change order is locked. Nobody can change it, take it back or delete it, you or your builder. Anything further is a new change order. The price of a signed change order is added to what you have agreed to pay.
“This link is not valid”: a change order’s link stops working when your builder sends it again or takes it back. Use the link in the most recent email about it, or ask your builder.
Seeing the money on your job
Your builder chooses whether you see this. If they have switched it on, Money shows you:
- On a fixed price job: the agreed price (the original price plus every change order you have signed), what you have paid, what is left to pay, your payments and your signed change orders
- On a cost plus job (you pay what the job costs plus an agreed markup): every supplier invoice your builder has shared, with its date, supplier, number, net amount and VAT, the markup on them, the total so far, what you have paid and what is left. Press Invoice beside one to open the invoice itself
If Money says there is nothing there yet, your builder has not sent you a change order or shared the money with you. Ask them if you expected to see it.
What you never see: your builder’s own costs, what their subcontractors charged them, their markup on a change order, or anything about the people working on the job. You see only what your builder chose to show you.
Questions about a figure are for your builder: BuildersAI shows what they have recorded, and they can correct it. Your payments and invoices are still made and kept the way your builder already does them: BuildersAI does not take payments.
